Women In Trade
- Period
- 2018 - present
- Countries
- Malawi, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda
- Participants
- Women cross-border traders and their cooperatives.
Project rationale
Women make up a large share of Africa's cross-border traders, yet too often trade informally - exposed to higher costs, harassment and greater risk.
The programme combines simplified trade regimes, cooperatives, information and targeted support to move women into formal, higher-value trade, with real gains in income and security.
Expected outcomes
- More women trading formally through simplified trade regimes.
- Reduced costs, delays and risk at the border for small-scale traders.
- Stronger women's trade associations and cooperatives.
